Lego Marvel Super Heroes – Starblaster Showdown (76019) Review

Lego Marvel Super Heroes – Starblaster Showdown (76019): Saw this at a clearance aisle, and I couldn’t pass up having my own tiny StarLord minifig, and huzzah I could justify it by saying I needed a Lego review, and considering Pley has so little Super Heroes builds – it works out. However while this was on clearance, I wish the build with the Milano was as well – simply because I’d love to have that ship.

What Else?

So this Nova ship has a wingspan of 25.5 cm. This is important because in the critical scene of Guardians of the Galaxy with the Nova ships – it has the fleet making an impressively large net to block the Dark Aster. The question is then though that since we have a single ship, and the screenshot from the movie giving us an amount of ships used to block the Dark Aster from reaching the planet – how big is the Dark Aster in Lego form?

Now using this frame here (which isn’t as HQ as I’d like) we can see a rough estimate of 98×42 – however as you see some of it becomes too hard to judge so looking at it, let’s say there’s really about 140 x 60 ships which puts the Nova fleet at 8400 thousand ships. (And a net is the best they can do? I mean c’mon a semi-concentrated attack.. anyway)

Well assuming about let’s say 1 8mm block between for the small gap of the ships, and we have a Lego scale length of the net being 3682 cm, and a width of 1052 cm. (Note for the width we use a smaller amount since as the film shows it goes around the sides of the Aster) Now to put that in perspective that meaning we abstract the Dark Aster to standard blocks.

That puts us in a ship 4602 pieces long, and 1095 pieces tall. Now assuming like we said this was just standard bricks of 2×4 meaning we are just doing the facade of the ship we have about 1,259,797 pieces. Let’s also say that because the Dark Aster Rotates that we can call it’s height the same as it’s depth (I realize this is not true as it’s not a true square) which gives us 828,316,528 pieces. Now since this doesn’t account for details, but also let’s be fair there is room for removing bricks for an interior (you have the space). Let’s just call that a cool 800 million piece set and take solace in the fact the UCS line doesn’t try and make things to scale. And for those wondering how heavy it would be to pick it up – well hopefully you have a serious forklift.

Remix: So for this remix I wanted to take advantage of the wing pieces to make a spider/bug like creature. I’m not terribly pleased with it, and I think I should have tried to actually divide and conquer the remix akin to how the ships are split.

Final Thoughts: Overall I’m glad to have a Nova ship and mini Star Lord. If like me you can find this set on sale I would say get it. Although if you want to be accurate to the movie you might need to actually get quite a bit.. This is the first of the Super Heroes builds at TopBrick, and I’m looking forward to more.

Final Score: 3 out of 5 Stars
